Subject: Reorganization Rumors


Paul and Stephen,

You have truly duped me. I knew nothing about the work that has been done here until today.

Stephen you have never briefed me on this work. I would not have really expected that you would have done all this without telling me what you were doing.

And Paul why is the FRA proposing the reorganizing of Amtrak. Is this what the Secretary will propose?

Don't you understand the stress of change and new regulation that this company has been going through at the operational level for the last seven, now going on eight years. Some of those changes have not even taken effect yet and that is causing added stress on our Capital program, and our operating functions.

The law says the Secretary is to set the Accounts up, it does not say change or propose to change the organizational structure of Amtrak from what I understood. If that's open to debate then let's have the debate, not the product of a new organizational proposal. I remember when UMTA (now FTA) set up new accounts it was several volumes and was very confusing for some time. I don't see this task as easy enough to both set up accounts and set up a new organization in the same timeframe.

I don't support this. If for no other reason that the timing is way off. We are in the middle of a revenue slump. Confusing the company now is a bad thing. The new CEO will likely have their own ideas but that will be a better timing than now. Right now I believe we need to focus on the Marketing and Revenue function and re-vision how we use data and social media and international sales, but changing these boxes around in a major way? No.
