** Host a Book Circle

The DCF is looking for individuals to spark discussions about the imbalance in opportunity in Delaware.https://www.delcf.org/community/building-opportunity/book-circles/

Here's how it works: You host a small Book Circle, and we’ll provide copies of Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis (read The New York Times review here (https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/08/books/review/our-kids-by-robert-d-putnam.html) ) and a discussion guide to kickstart your conversation.

Each host is asked to:

- Recruit four or five friends to read the book.
- Gather as a group to discuss the reading.

The DCF will provide FREE books, up to 10 copies per Book Circle, thanks to a partnership with Delaware Humanities (https://dehumanities.org/) .

Invite your Book Circle to save the date! Our Kids author Prof. Robert D. Putnam will be speaking (https://www.delcf.org/community/building-opportunity/leadership-lecture/) at the baby grand in the Edith & Alexander Giacco Building in Wilmington on Nov. 14. The Book Circles program is the first activity in Building Opportunity in Delaware (https://www.delcf.org/community/building-opportunity/) ,
the DCF's new multiyear initiative to explore the opportunity gap, convene conversations that lead to solutions, and leverage resources for the greatest impact on creating opportunity for all Delawareans.

The opportunity gap is related to the notion that your ZIP code defines your destiny. It refers to the ways in which institutional barriers in our society – educational, economic, and racial – contribute to growing disparities among classes in America and perpetuate lower educational aspirations and economic success for some citizens.
