sterling ruby: ceramics (https://madmuseum.org/exhibition/sterling-ruby-ceramics)

Explore the first museum exhibition to focus on Sterling Ruby's ceramic works. In a process heavily indebted to craft, Ruby rolls, punches, assembles, fingers, and manipulates clay by hand and machine to arrive at basins that often hold the debris of previous kiln misfires.

Sterling Ruby: Ceramics was organized by the Des Moines Art Center and curated by the Art Center's Director Jeff Fleming. The exhibition was secured for the Museum of Arts and Design by William and Mildred Lasdon Chief Curator Shannon R. Stratton with support from Assistant Manager of Curatorial Affairs Angelik Vizcarrondo-Laboy.

Discover the inaugural finalists of the Burke Prize, which champions professional artists under the age of forty-five working in the core disciplines of the American studio craft movement. The artists on view are advancing the field through innovative ways, including, but not limited to, the incorporation of unexpected materials, performance, and digital media.

The Burke Prize is named for Marian and Russell Burke, two passionate collectors of craft and longtime supporters of MAD.

The Burke Prize 2018: The Future of Craft Part 2 is curated by MAD's Assistant Curator Samantha De Tillio and Assistant Manager of Curatorial Affairs Angelik Vizcarrondo-Laboy with support from Curatorial Assistant Alida Jekabson.
