The U.S. Chamber worked extensively with its broad membership and found that a clear, single set of rules and regulations will bring about the best results for consumers and businesses. “Advances in technology have empowered businesses and consumers alike, and policies to address these changes should reflect both the significant impact of the tech ecosystem on the economy and the importance of the responsible use of consumer data. The principles released today are at the intersection of these priorities, and are an effort to ensure businesses and consumers can make the most of the modern economy knowing regulatory certainty and privacy protections are a priority,” said Tim Day, senior vice president of C_TEC, the Chamber’s Technology Engagement Center. “We are proud to have led an industry-wide discussion on privacy, and developed the principles with feedback from the U.S. Chamber’s diverse and substantial membership. That’s part of the due diligence we are doing here to put forward the best principles for consumers and businesses.” The U.S. Chamber will continue working with lawmakers and industry stakeholders with the goal of advancing privacy legislation.
