On Labor Day, we honor the hard work and sacrifice of America’s devoted and vibrant workforce. Since the first textile mills appeared on the bank of the Pawtucket River in Rhode Island to the factories right here at home in Wilmington, our workers have built the American industrial economy.

I’m reminded of a quote from one of our fellow Delawareans whom you might recognize:

“Unions did in fact build the middle class. And here's what that did. That built the United States of America as we know it.” -- Vice President Joe Biden

I’m proud to represent Delaware’s working families in Congress. Union members educate our children, protect our communities, build our homes, ensure we’re healthy, and even fly our planes. As the First State’s first-ever Congresswoman, I’ll never stop fighting for the hardworking men and women everywhere that form the backbone of American Industry.

On this Labor Day, Hunter, let’s take an extra minute to thank our union family for their sacrifices and hard work. Because of their diligence and commitment to exceptional ideals -- and the example set by generations of American workers -- our economy has prospered.
