At this time, I have only spoken with Jonathan Shrier, deputy coordinator of the food security initiative at the State Department (they do not have a coordinator). On Monday, I plan to reach out to my friend Dave Lazarus who serves on the Domestic Policy Council as advisor to the President on agriculture policy. He is not the key point of contact on foreign policy but is a friend who can help (he worked for Senator Durbin on global hunger issues). However, your recommendation of a more appropriate point of contact would be appreciated – if appropriate. I am very understanding of the sensitivity of your engagement of officials at the WH and would not want you to do anything close to inappropriate. Thanks again for everything.

I think you should pursue. You need to decide how widely you publicize this, whether you should give a heads up to anyone at State or WH, and whether we do this alone (which is fine with me) or in conjunction with anyone else.

Per the recommendation in the Statement, I am planning to send letters to Secretary Clinton, the UN Secretary General and the current president of the Security Council suggesting that they call an immediate meeting of the Security Council to urge all nations to help secure unfettered humanitarian access to southern Somalia.
