Glick, a campaigner for Jewish access to the disputed holy site Temple Mount, was targeted on Wednesday night. After the killing, police and residents clashed in the Abu Tor neighborhood, where Hejazi was shot.

For the first time in years, Israel restricted all worshipers' access to the Temple Mount, which is known to Muslims as Haram-al Sharif. Palestinian authorities condemned the move, calling it a "grave act." "This dangerous Israeli escalation is a declaration of war on the Palestinian people and its sacred places and on the Arab and Islamic nation," said Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority.

Glick and his supporters have been pushing for more Jewish access to the site, which is administered by Muslim authorities. Under an arrangement that has been in place for decades, Jews are not allowed to worship atop the mount, only in the Western Wall plaza below.

Syria: A first contingent of Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters entered the Syrian town of Kobani to help fight the Islamic State. The town, which lies on the border with Turkey, has been surrounded by militants for some 40 days. US-led airstrikes have so far failed to break the siege.

** Sponsored Message: Russia Direct is pleased to launch its third Student Essay Competition for young experts in foreign affairs.
