Dear Hunter, In the last few days I was in Boulder, CO, visiting my 5-year old son and his mom. I noticed that some old news about 'you', with politically-motivated timing, had surfaced in the previous week, timed to maximise the embarrassment that its retailers actually intended for your father and his boss, irrespective of its effect on you and your family. "It is a shame to be surprised when a walnut tree produces walnuts " All 'reports' are reports on the state of consciousness of the reporter. In advising clients who have faced character assassination akin to yours (that is, akin in this case), I use a particular saying with such frequency that I imagine it to be mine: "Drive the message -don't be driven by the message". Actually, whomever else lays claim to it, that sentence was Marshall McLuhan's, he of "The medium is the message". Marshall was an enthusiastic practitioner of transcendental meditation in the 70s -an admirer of my master, Maharishi. Either Marshall introduced his countryman, Pierre Trudeau, to the practice, or vice versa. McLuhan was an important mentor to me, though we met only very briefly -in the context of his meeting Maharishi. Enough history. You are the message, Hunter -you can drive the message of what you are, rather than you (and the gullible readership and viewership) being at the mercy of sensationalist "news" retailers. Your past truth represents relate-ability, to coin a term; your story, intact (as opposed to its being made intentionally merely into a snapshot sound bite bereft of context) would be related to by vast numbers, if those people had the opportunity to experience the wide-angle lens perspective provided by a broader context. Your present moment truth -recovery- is the coup de grâce that relativizes all "news" about your family. I look forward to discussing this perspective further with you. Let's try to Skype or phone next week. Much love, Thom
