See below.....FYI, Joel Kaplan was Jeremy's direct boss at the White House and Myriah was Jeremy's counterpart. (There were two people that worked directly for Joel, Jeremy and Myriah - Joel was Karl Rove's Deputy.) BULLETIN - FACEBOOK RAMPS UP IN WASHINGTON "to demonstrate to policymakers that we are industry leaders in privacy, data security and safety": --JOEL KAPLAN TO HEAD D.C. OFFICE - A Facebook exec emails: "Joel Kaplan will join the policy team on June 13 as Vice President, U.S. Public Policy. He will oversee and coordinate Facebook's public policy strategy and interactions with federal and state policymakers. He will head our Washington office, and lead our efforts there to educate and build support among key audiences for our plans, products, and policies. ... He joins Facebook from Energy Future Holdings, where [he is] Executive Vice President ... "[A]fter advising the Bush-Cheney [2000] campaign on policy, Joel served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the George W. Bush White House [after serving as] Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget ... He served as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia ... Earlier, Joel served as an Artillery Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School." --Joel will report to Marne Levine, also a V.P., who heads global public policy. She was chief of staff of President Obama's National Economic Council under Larry Summers. --A second addition to the D.C. office: "Myriah Jordan will join the policy team on June 6 as a Policy Manager. Her primary focus will be on congressional relations. Myriah served most recently as General Counsel to Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), where she provided legal and policy advice on a range of issues including technology, trade, immigration, constitutional law and national security. Prior to that, she worked in the Office of the Chief of Staff at the White House under President George W. Bush and worked on a broad range of policy issues." --A (perhaps temporary) departure: "Cathie Martin, who has been managing Facebook's congressional relations, has requested a leave of absence effective in early June in order to tend to personal matters. Cathie has been an invaluable contributor to Facebook's policy efforts and we are hopeful that she will return to Facebook in some capacity when the time is right for her." --"In the interim, Tim Sparapani and Myriah Jordan will assume responsibility for congressional relations. Tim will continue to manage our State and Executive Branch policy." Eric D.
