"A new conservative super PAC for states."

TRANSITIONS: Chapin Fay, Republican Lee Zeldin's campaign manager in New York's 1st District, said he has left the campaign to join Mercury Public Affairs. Eric Amidon, who ran Zeldin's field operation during the primary, has taken over as campaign manager. ... Buck Cram is joining Brigade, a startup chaired by Sean Parker that says it will work to "restore you, the voter, to the center of our democracy," said spokesman Andrew Noyes. Cram comes from CRAFT | Media/Digital and served previous stints with the RNC and Iowa GOP.

FRIDAY STANDINGS: Here's our take on how some of the most important candidates, campaigns and political players should answer the question: Are you better off now than you were a week ago?

YES: (1) Republican Senate candidates who look poised to get more backup this fall as Freedom Partners and affiliates begin to reserve an approximate $20 million in airtime (including Monica Wehby of Oregon and Scott Brown of New Hampshire); (2) West Virginia Senate candidate Natalie Tennant, the latest red-state Democrat to get a base-energizing jolt from Sen. Elizabeth Warren in what remains an uphill race; (3) The people of Iowa, or at least Republicans who like to plan ahead: They're getting visits from seven potential 2016 GOP candidates in coming days and weeks, according to RealClearPolitics' tally (

NO: (1) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, who saw a wave of fellow Republicans line up behind Democratic challenger Paul Davis; (2) Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), whose leading GOP opponent, Bill Cassidy, saw his field of competitors consolidate slightly with fellow Republican Paul Hollis' exit from the race; (3) Tom Steyer, the billionaire environmentalist, whose super PAC made little progress toward its audacious $50 million fundraising goal last quarter.

CHRISTIE STORMS IOWA - The New York Times' Michael Barbaro in Marion: "The unspoken rules of prepresidential politics, not to mention the diplomacy of navigating a scandal, required Chris Christie to avoid any suggestion that his swing through Iowa on Thursday involved his own White House ambitions. Inside a diner here, a different reality played out. ... Ostensibly here to campaign for Terry E. Branstad, the state's popular Republican governor, who is up for re-election this fall, Mr. Christie thoroughly upstaged him. As the pair walked into a restaurant here in Marion, Mr. Christie was circled by reporters, separating him from his entourage and leaving Mr. Branstad momentarily stranded a
few feet ahead. 'You attract a crowd,' a man told Mr. Branstad. 'No,' he replied, 'I think it's the guy with me.' ... Try as he might, it was impossible for Mr. Christie to entirely escape his troubles back home. As Mr. Christie traveled across Iowa, a former aide was testifying in Trenton that she had deleted some of the text messages that she had sent to the governor about the investigation into the traffic on the bridge.'

'READY FOR HILLARY' ADVISER: NO CLINTON CORONATION - POLITICO's Maggie Haberman: "The comments from Craig Smith, a longtime friend and ally of Bill and Hillary Clinton dating back to the 1970s, came in an extensive interview with POLITICO about the group's activities. Smith, along with Ready for Hillary founder Adam Parkhomenko and adviser Tracy Sefl, laid out a view of the emerging 2016 campaign from the perspective of an outside group devoted to harnessing the grassroots. Smith has rarely given interviews since joining the group in the early part of 2013. ... 'I think she should compete everywhere,' Smith said during the interview at a diner in Midtown Manhattan, when asked whether
Clinton should handle the Hawkeye State differently this time. 'There are delegates everywhere - we need them all.'"

FROM OUR NOTEBOOKS - POLITICO's Katie Glueck emails from Detroit: "About 3,000 progressive activists have descended here for Netroots Nation, the high-profile yearly liberal confab. Joe Biden was generally well-received, and attendees are slated to hear from Elizabeth Warren - who is clearly the headliner in this crowd - on Friday morning. There is a heavy union presence, along with environmental and immigration activists, among others. Ready for Hillary, the grassroots-focused group urging Hillary Clinton to run for president, is a co-sponsor of the event and sponsored a snack table on Thursday. Friday night activities include a 'Motown Rising' party sponsored in part by Ready for Hillary,
and a 'Union-Made Bacon, Bourbon and Beer' event."

- "Democratic base: Fine with Clinton, pining for Warren": "The conversations suggest that for both Clinton and the Democratic base, at least at this early stage, this is a marriage of necessity more than passion. But each side knows they need it to work and seem willing to try. 'Certainly, I would vote for her, OK, but if she wins the primary, I'm going to focus on local elections,' said Alberto Saavedra, who works in the computer industry in Los Angeles. Asked whom he would be excited about for 2016, he replied, 'Guess who ... Elizabeth Warren. She has spoken so well about the issues that concern average Americans, she's not too of-Wall Street. Hillary is too Wall Street and also too
hawkish, but compared to any of the Republicans, she's acceptable.'"

- "Joe Biden touts progressive cred, claps for protesters": "Biden was introduced by Arshad Hasan, the executive director of the activist group Progress Now. Hasan praised Biden for coming out ahead of the rest of the White House in backing same-sex marriage, and the vice president began his address by reiterating his support for the LGBT movement. 'I didn't free the LGBT community,' he said. 'What y'all did, what they did, was free every straight woman and straight man in this country.'"

FACTCHECK.ORG WHOPPER OF THE WEEK: Bob Johnson and Buddy Carter - rivals for the GOP nomination in Georgia's 1st Congressional District - share a whopper for deceptive ads that portray the other as a closet fan of Obamacare. A Johnson TV ad quotes Carter as saying Obamacare is "not so bad." That's a cherry-picked quote. Carter said that "some of the things that have happened so far are not so bad," but he immediately added that "the worst part is yet to come." Carter, meanwhile, blasts Johnson for "membership in and endorsement from groups that support Obamacare." Dr. Bob Johnson is a member of the American Medical Association, but he disagrees with the AMA on this issue. Needless to say,
both have called for repeal of the law. The full story, "Who Supports Obamacare in Georgia Race?":

** WHY RADIO IS THE #1 CHOICE FOR REACHING VOTERS 35-64. By Pat McGee, SVP Political Strategies for Katz Radio Group

Radio is America's companion. According to Scarborough, radio reaches more voters 35-64 during the workweek than any other medium. That is an incredibly powerful figure.

Along with its massive reach, radio's ability to influence voters is unique.A recent USC Annenberg study says, 60% of listeners think of radio hosts "like a friend" whose opinions they trust and value.

On-air personalities are a key element in defining what makes radio different - and more personal - than any other medium in voters' minds.Voters trust and rely on radio personalities for information whether it's news, sports, weather, traffic, community events - or politics.

That trust and connection creates a powerful relationship. One that voters take to heart and influences their opinion. No other medium has this power.

With more than 4,000 radio stations reaching 240 million voters a week, let Katz Radio Group deliver your message connecting with every community, in every market, across America.
