One year ago on February 14, tragedy struck Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen members of the Parkland community lost their lives. In the wake of that tragedy, that same community turned to advocacy, fighting for practical public safety reforms to end the epidemic of school violence.
Their response was brave and courageous, and for me it was deeply personal. After my son Jordan was shot and killed, I dedicated my life to making our gun laws stricter and safer. The Parkland community has done the same, and in the wake of their turning tragedy into purpose, I was inspired to run for Congress.
I ran in a swing district on gun violence prevention. We won. And now we've brought our message of common-sense solutions for gun policy reform to Washington.
