FYI - this is the Google / Lady Gaga backed venture. Their CEO is the
Chairman of Gunnar. This is one of Google's many bets to attack Facebook's
hold on social networking. Looks like Founders Fund is coming into this
round . . . It's early stage, but they have a revenue model - Google pays
them for every gmail account they open.


Backplane Series B Highlights:


$40mm pre-money valuation. Have taken in $3.8mm to date and will raise up
to $12mm in Series B to scale the engineering team and manage growth.
Google Ventures will lead the Series B and they will keep the round open
until July 31st.


List of investors: Sequoia Capital, Google Ventures, Greylock, Battery
Ventures, Formation 8, Menlo Ventures, SV Angels, Raptor Ventures (Jim
Pallotta of Tudor), Tomorrow Ventures (Eric Schmidt - Chairman of Google),
Founders Found (Peter Thiel and Sean Parker) and Metamorphic Ventures.


80% of usage is coming from international.
