The economy added 287,000 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported Friday, up from 11,000 in May.

Unemployment was 4.9 percent, up from May's 4.7 percent.

Average hourly private-sector earnings were up 2 cents. In May, they were up 6 cents.

Analysts had predicted job growth of about 180,000, an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent and an increase in hourly earnings of 0.2 percent, according to a Bloomberg survey of economists.
