Hi Janne,


Hope this finds you well. Your colleagues in DC shared your contact
information with me. My name is Nicole deBrabander and I work in CARE’s DC
office on a program called the Learning Tours.


Our team will be in Haiti the week of June 10 as part of a pre-planning
trip for a Learning Tour we’re hosting in August. We’re interested in
meeting with you to learn about WFP’s work and I was hoping you’d be
available to meet the evening of Monday, June 11 or Wednesday, June 13.
Could you also send a list of your programs?

*CARE Haiti Learning Tour***


CARE’s Learning Tour to Haiti will take place in August 2012. This trip
will offer a unique look at U.S. foreign assistance programs and recovery
efforts post the January 2010 earthquake. Early themes for this trip will
focus on innovative community-level solutions to improving health and water
& sanitation programs and fostering economic development. A special focus
will be on highlighting gender-based violence and the role of a large and
influential Haitian Diaspora. Through strong partnerships, specifically
with the U.S. Government and the private sector, progress is being made
despite the devastation of the Earthquake and persistent political
instability in Haiti.


The Learning Tours program, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,
gives CARE the opportunity to host and engage U.S. policymakers (Foreign
Affairs, Budget and Appropriations committees) and other key
decision-makers from the media, corporate and philanthropic sectors on the
challenges as well as the positive solutions that can inform U.S.
Government policies and funding on international foreign assistance,
particularly as it relates to women and girls. The goal is to build
champions who will advocate for improved policies and increased funding for
overall U.S. foreign assistance. CARE has conducted trips to Uganda,
Bangladesh, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Peru, Ghana,
Liberia, and Tanzania over the last four years and you can find information
