Our kids won a total of 39 gold medals, 15 silver, and 18 bronze!
A baby born ten weeks early to a mom in our TEN Program <http://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/page.aspx?pid=364&srctid=1&erid=154734&trid=c9e60c58-4446-46e0-ac31-8169657470a5> finally came home from the hospital! Both mom and baby are happy and healthy.
Our Hermano Pedro Day Shelter <http://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/page.aspx?pid=429&srctid=1&erid=154734&trid=c9e60c58-4446-46e0-ac31-8169657470a5> is now hosting Alcoholics Anonymous in Spanish each weekday.

Heavy thunderstorms hit Catholic Charities

A thunderstorm outbreak with heavy winds struck the DC/Maryland region on June 22, knocking out power at our SHARE Food Network <http://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/page.aspx?pid=372&srctid=1&erid=154734&trid=c9e60c58-4446-46e0-ac31-8169657470a5>'s warehouse and causing severe roof damage at a housing program. Fortunately, the Catholic Charities community came together!
Volunteers at SHARE conducted their monthly food distribution of over 8000 food packages by candlelight - and with wonderful spirit!
The women displaced due to roof damage received a donation of furniture and household goods to help make their transitional shelter more comfortable.

St. Augustine volunteers serve at our shelter!

Being homeless is a struggle - and often a lonely one. That's why we love when the local groups host special events for our clients, reminding them of life's joys and building their sense of belonging in our community. On June 23, 40 parishioners from St. Augustine's Parish volunteered at Community Day at our 801 East Emergency Men's Shelter <http://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/page.aspx?pid=359&srctid=1&erid=154734&trid=c9e60c58-4446-46e0-ac31-8169657470a5>. They served picnic food, brought in a DJ, held health screenings, and distributed bags packed with necessities like underclothes, toiletries, and ponchos to over 250 clients. A mom of three, she now faces the long term challenge of supporting her young kids on her own. No shortcuts for Becky; she went back to school pursuing a nursing degree so that in two years' time she'll have a job that can sustain her family!
