July 19, 2016: Bethesda Lacrosse Association, Long Island Express and Performance
Sports announce the formation of DC EXPRESS.
DC Express Lacrosse Club is being formed to develop and maintain top tier high school
boy's club lacrosse teams in the DC Metropolitan area. Critical to the mission is
the formation of teams with players selected of the highest skill level and athleticism
to prepare for play at the collegiate level. Teams will be formed on an annual basis,
selected in August and operating from September 1st to August 31st of each year.
All teams will be coached by highly skilled professional lacrosse coaches, with
extensive knowledge of high school and college lacrosse. Maximizing each athlete's
potential to create the highest opportunity to participate at the college level
is paramount. DC Express will train and educate our student-athletes both on and
off the field to compete at the highest level. Thru the affiliation with Long Island
Express, DC Express teams will have immediate access to premier recruiting showcases
and tournaments.
"Bethesda Lacrosse is excited to be a partner in DC Express. Bethesda Lacrosse Club
has experienced extensive growth and our teams have enjoyed tremendous success at
the elementary and middle school levels, both in Maryland and nationally, and DC
Express provides a top flight high school club program locally for our student-athletes
and their families," according to Matt Breslin, Executive Director of Bethesda Lacrosse
Association and himself a former All American goalie at Duke University.
"Long Island Express is thrilled to be partnering with two highly respected lacrosse
operators in the Washington MSA, where we can extend our high school programs that
have been so well received and accomplished on Long Island and most recently with
an expansion in Westchester, NY." according to Mike Chanenchuk, Founder of Long
Island Express and a former All-American collegiate player at the Naval Academy.
Further, according to Mr. Chanenchuk: "Since founding the Express we have been
fortunate to place over 300 players on over 50 college teams throughout the NCAA."
Mr. Chanenchuk added, "BLC has organically developed talented lacrosse players and
teams that compete with the best youth lacrosse teams in the country. DC Express
will provide a unique opportunity for those players to continue to train and practice
locally with top-notch coaches during their High School years, while allowing them
to compete and be recognized nationally with the best lacrosse players in the country."
"Performance prides itself on developing the all - around athlete - our indoor facility,
coupled with our tremendous stable of coaches, provide year round opportunities
for the athlete to improve strength and skills, and optimize athletes for opportunity
to play at the college level." According to Ray Megill, Founder of Performance and
a former All-American at the University of Maryland and MLL Champion. "Along with
my brother, Brian, a former Syracuse All-American and current MLL, NLL, and member
of the U.S. Indoor National team, we are excited about this wonderful opportunity
- we both have made a lifelong commitment to being coaches and mentors to young
people and DC Express represents a unique venue."
"I think it is great and it is about time that the DC Metro Area has a Super Team
which allows kids to stay local and play and compete with their friends as opposed
to traveling to other markets in order to compete at the highest level. Having
the opportunity to play locally for top tier coaches, be trained by the Megill brothers
and have access to the premier recruiting showcases in the country will be a game
changer for lacrosse in the DC area." Ryan Wade, UNC All American, and World Team
MVP.
DC Express will hold tryouts August 27th and 28th for the 2016-17 Club Season.
Two teams will be formed at 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018 graduation years and one
team for 2017 players (fall only). To register for DC Express Tryouts - www.dcexpresslacrosse.com
