R.Hunter - The American people didn't send us to Congress to sit around and argue. Right now, our government is moving toward another shutdown crisis and holding health care for children hostage. President Trump has totally upended the budget process - proposing an astonishingly irresponsible budget that would cut $54 billion from critical programs. While congressional Republicans play games with spending bills, the Children's Health Insurance Program - CHIP - remains a political football. Democrats have been crystal clear on where we stand: We want to keep the government open and pass sensible, bipartisan funding bills that move our country forward. We know that families are counting on Congress to reauthorize CHIP now. Already, parents in some states have been notified that their children could lose coverage. That's entirely unacceptable. This program has long enjoyed bipartisan support, and it's vital that we reauthorize it and end the uncertainty plaguing families across the country. Fixing the problems facing our country doesn't have to be hard, and it doesn't have to be partisan. I'm ready to get to work, and I hope that you'll join me in finding solutions.
