PDemocrat Doug Jones has won Alabama's special Senate election, defeating Republican Roy Moore after Moore was accused of sexual assault and child predation by multiple women.

Jones, a former U.S. attorney, had 49.6 percent of the vote when The Associated Press called the race with 89 percent of precincts reporting. Moore, a former state Supreme Court chief justice, had 48.8 percent. Jones' win, the first by a Democratic Senate candidate in Alabama since 1992, shrinks the Republicans' Senate majority to 51 seats.
