Re: 2018-2019 Center Board Slate


I am pleased to submit the attached report which contains the proposed slate of Officers and Directors for the 2018-2019 term. You are only voting for new Board members and for those whose terms expired at the end of 2017; they are highlighted in yellow on the attached slate. The remainder of the Board is serving a term that will conclude at the end of 2018.

The following changes to the Board are recommended, subject to the Board's approval:

§ Lionel Johnson is being nominated as Secretary to replace Mark Green, who resigned from the Board earlier this year when he became USAID Administrator.

§ Gary Knell, President and CEO of National Geographic, is being nominated as a new Director. Gary served as a member of the Center's Board when he was President of Sesame Workshop several years ago. Gary's bio is attached.


Katy Button of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, longtime USGLC partner and friend, has recently retired from BMGF and has therefore stepped down from the USGLC Board. We are not expecting a replacement from BMGF to join the Board at this time.


Attached is the proposed slate of individuals nominated to serve as Officers serving two year terms from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019, and those individuals nominated to serve as Directors for two years from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019.
