GOP FEELS BETRAYED AFTER DREAMER DEAL - President Donald Trump's decision to deal with Democrats on an agreement to protect Dreamers has Republicans in a "state of confusion and outrage that far surpasses the frustration with his debt ceiling deal with the minority last week," Burgess, Rachael and Josh Dawsey report. GOP leaders spent Thursday publicly and privately playing clean up duty and reminding folks that they - not House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) - run Congress.

The GOP playbook: "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell icily dismissed the Trump-Schumer-Pelosi talks, saying he looks 'forward to receiving the Trump administration's legislative proposal.' House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) stressed there 'was a discussion, not an agreement.'"

Real talk: "That Republicans are being forced to deny a deal that Democrats said they cut with Trump is remarkable in and of itself. The majority party, made up of dozens of Republicans that have stood by Trump this year despite being plagued with controversy, should in theory be working hand-in-glove with the president on moving legislative priorities," Burgess, Rachael and Josh note. DEMS FACE IRE FROM THE LEFT - Schumer and Pelosi are having to put out their own fires on the left with Hispanic lawmakers and immigration advocates who felt blindsided by Democratic leaders' announcement of a deal with Trump. "I remember when issues of immigration were first filtered through, checked in with us. And I don't see that," said Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.), one of the most outspoken members of the CHC.

Several CHC members were particularly irked about how they found out about the deal: Many members were at the CHC Institute's annual gala Wednesday night - the first time in nearly 40 years the group hasn't invited the president - when the news broke. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), CHCI chairman, was delivering a speech about why the group decided to snub Trump as members' phones started buzzing with news alerts about the deal Democratic leaders made with the president. RYAN'S WORKING GROUP - Ryan is creating an informal working group of moderate Republicans and immigration hard-liners to find a Dreamer solution that a majority of the House GOP conference can support, Rachael reports. "Sources close to leadership say House Republicans plan to ask Trump to push for the wall as part of any DACA fix." Democrats have said they won't support any bill that includes wall funding and Trump has already agreed not to demand the border wall as part of a deal to protect Dreamers. MEANWHILE, the Department of Homeland Security is considering delaying the Oct. 5 deadline some DACA recipients face to renew their permits before the program is scheduled to end early next year. "Word of the possible delay came as a federal judge signaled that he might postpone the cut-off date unless the Trump administration acted first, attendees at a Thursday court hearing said," Josh Gerstein reports.

Why this matters: Many Democrats have been pushing for action on DACA in the next two weeks - an idea Republicans said was unrealistic - citing the fast-approaching renewal deadline, which impacts about 150,000 Dreamers. BEHIND THE SCENES: TRUMP'S DANCE WITH DEMS - Trump's continued outreach to Democrats may have as much to do with personality as anything else. "A senior administration official said the only Republican in leadership with whom Trump has a personal connection is House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a back-slapping Californian whose penchant for schmoozing mirrors the president's," Rachael and Josh report.

"'Schumer just talks to him. You get Mitch and Paul in here, and they're trying to explain this or that, and there is no personal connection,' a White House source said. ...One attendee of a recent meeting of NY/NJ lawmakers with Trump said the president grinned so much at Schumer that it was 'almost uncomfortable.'" HE LIKES ME, HE REALLY LIKES ME - Schumer was caught on a hot mic Thursday on the Senate floor candidly describing Democratic leaders' dinner with Trump: "He likes us," Schumer can be heard saying on the video. "He likes me, anyway." He also offered Trump a little advice: "Here's what I told him: I said, 'Mr. President, you're much better off if you can sometimes step right and sometimes step left. If you have to step just in one direction, you're boxed [in]," Schumer said. The most interesting part? The AP's Erica Werner reports Schumer was relaying all of this to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. What a world!

HARRIS BACKS FEINSTEIN REELECTION - Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), a progressive favorite, is offering "100 percent" support should Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) decide to run for reelection. "I am a strong supporter of Dianne, and if she decides to run again, I will be front and center in supporting her - and for lots of good reasons,'' Harris told Carla Marinucci Thursday. Harris' support is important -- Feinstein is still a powerhouse in California but her centrist politics have come under fire by progressives back home who are threatening a primary challenge on the left. COMING ATTRACTIONS - The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing in the next two weeks on two bills aimed at protecting special counsel Robert Mueller, CNN's Manu Raju and Jeremy Herb report. "At the same time, the Senate panel is weighing whether to compel the appearance of Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, along with two senior FBI officials, all of whom have yet to agree to be interviewed despite the demands of committee leaders."

DEMOCRATS HAVE NO WORD FOR IMPOSSIBLE - Democrats think they may have found the (near impossible) path to taking back the Senate in 2018: win Tennessee. The red-state seat is particularly attractive to Democrats after news that Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) is considering retirement and facing a primary challenge. "In conversations with other senators - in which he refuses to rule out winning back the Senate - Schumer often brings up Corker's seat, which Senate operatives regard as the white whale of 2018," Kevin Robillard and Gabriel Debenedetti report.

But the math, well it's tough: Remember, Democrats are defending 25 Senate seats next year, including 10 in states that Trump won. In order to take back the Senate, Democrats would need to hold onto those seats and pick up three more. Republicans are only defending eight seats and they're mostly in red states. "They would have to successfully pick off Sens. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), the only two battleground-state Republicans up for reelection... Then, Democrats would have to pull off a major upset in a state like Alabama, Texas or Tennessee."
