Currently accepting applications for our Alumni Coordinator position Are you interested in connecting Former Jesuit Volunteers (FJVs) around the world? Apply to be our new Alumni Coordinator! Our current Alumni Coordinator, Sarah Jones, has stepped into the JV Program Manager role, so we are accepting applications to fill this important role on our team, based in Milwaukie, Ore. (just south of Portland). This position helps FJVs connect with JVC Northwest, our shared values, and each other in exciting and dynamic ways! The Alumni Coordinator is responsible for the development, maintenance, and expansion of JVC Northwest's volunteer alumni network outside the Northwest. This position manages the Ruined Readers Book Club, FJV Connect, and assists in the planning of FJV reunions, retreats, and other events. Former Jesuit Volunteers or those who have completed a year of service in intentional community are particularly encouraged to apply. Click here for more information. Extending the Gratitude Thanks to all of those who were present at Orientation in Molalla, Ore. last month. Our newest JVs spent a week engaging in the values of JVC Northwest, soaking up wisdom from one another, FJV presenters and guests, staff, Jesuits, and friends of the organization. Meet our new Recruiters! Host them or send potential applicants their way! We’re excited to introduce our two Recruiters this year: Megan Harsh (Yakima, WA ‘16-17) and Elizabeth Sensing (Anchorage, AK ’16-17). They hit the road last week and will be traveling to colleges across the South, Midwest, and West Coast for the next month. Check out their schedules here. Red Cross JVs deployed to Texas Read the latest blog to hear about their experiences in Beaumont, TX Our two Alaska Red Cross JVs, Ella and Carly, volunteered to help with Hurricane Harvey cleanup, and are currently volunteering in Beaumont, Texas. This new Province stretches from the Arctic Circle to the US/Mexico Border. In celebration, many local communities and parishes are hosting events to honor Jesuits West in the coming year. Click here for a full list of celebrations. From Mission to Mission October 12-15, Philadelphia, Penn. The next Post-service Reflection Retreat/Workshops will take place October 12-15 in Philadelphia. The time after volunteers finish their service can be a challenging time. Mission to Mission retreats are designed to help alums to honor their experiences, as well as learn how to move forward in a healthy way. It gives people a safe place to reflect on and share their experiences. It provides advice and guidance on how to move forward. It offers a framework on how to integrate the experience so that it lives on. Click here for more information. True North Weekend Retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius September 29 –October 1, Prince of Peace Abbey, Oceanside, Cali. The Center for Ignatian Spirituality at Our Guadalupe Parish in San Diego is hosting a silent retreat with presentations, time for reflection, liturgy, and the chance to meet with a director. If you are interested, please contact Fr. John Auther, S.J. at jauthersj@olgsd.org. Space is limited to 16 people. A Faith that Does Justice Monthly Meeting Second Tuesdays of each month, 6:30 pm – 8 pm, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, San Diego, Cali. The Center for Ignatian Spirituality is hosting monthly meetings that draw on Ignatian spirituality and include presentations by speakers engaged in social justice work followed by a group discussion. Centennial Retreat Thursday evenings from October 12 to November 16 or Friday morning from October 13 to November 17, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, San Diego, Cali. This retreat hosted by the Center for Ignatian Spirituality will involve a presentation based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and time for people to reflect together. A little booklet will be given out each week to help the retreatants pray each day during the retreat. If you are interested, please contact Fr. John Auther, S.J. at jauthersj@olgsd.org. Catholic Volunteer Network Discernment Retreats Catholic Volunteer Network now hosts discernment retreats for current volunteers and alumni who are contemplating their next steps. Join CVN for a weekend retreat and enjoy the opportunity to get away from the busyness of life and join with others in the spirit of discernment. These retreats are made available free of charge thanks to the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Travel stipends are also available.
