On October 1 at 10 am, families with children are invited to join us for an interactive exploration of sound at this month’s Studio Sunday (http://madmuseum.org/events/studio-sunday-76) . We will be joined by artists Foo/Skou, who will lead visitors in delving into MAD’s new exhibition Sonic Arcade: Shaping Space with Sound (http://madmuseum.org/sonic-arcade-shaping-space-with-sound) , which shows their work Format 3: The Alphabet. MAD's Artslife teen interns will also be sharing insights into Sonic Arcade, and Artist Studios Program alumna Carla Diana will facilitate a hands-on making workshop related to the works on view. On October 19 at 6 pm, visit the Museum for MADmakes (http://madmuseum.org/events/madmakes-residents-artist-studios-program) , a fun-for-all-ages crafting class led by one of our new resident artists.

On Tuesday, November 7 at Cipriani 42nd Street, MAD will honor luminaries (https://thestore.madmuseum.org/collections/mad-ball-2017) from the worlds of art, fashion, real estate, and design at its most highly anticipated event of the year, the MAD Ball. Honorees exemplify the Museum’s mission to celebrate leadership and the creative process through which materials are crafted into objects and design that enhance contemporary life. On Saturday, October 7 at 3 pm, join Roberts as they moderate a discussion (http://madmuseum.org/events/panel-discussion-studio-practice-lj-roberts) about finding studio space and working as an artist in New York. Starting at 6 pm on Thursday, October 12 (through Sunday, October 15), visitors can experience Zapata’s new immersive installation To Teach or To Assume Authority (http://madmuseum.org/events/sarah-zapata’s-teach-or-assume-authority) , created during the duration of Studio Views. Visitors are invited to walk through the installation and examine this multi-sensory environment, inspired by the traditional use of ceremonial textiles. On October 24, Cycle 2 of Studio Views (http://madmuseum.org/exhibition/studio-views-craft-expanded-field) begins, and artists Xenobia Bailey (http://madmuseum.org/exhibition/studio-views-craft-expanded-field) and Maria Hupfield (http://madmuseum.org/exhibition/studio-views-craft-expanded-field) will begin their open studio residency in MAD’s third-floor galleries. Internationally acclaimed artist Bailey is best known for her eclectic crocheted hats, as well as her large-scale knit mandalas and tents consisting of colorful concentric circles and repeating patterns. Multidisciplinary artist Hupfield activates her creations in live performances. She is interested in the production of shared moments that open spaces for possibility and new narratives.

They'll be discussing the process of pitching, crafting and designing for the launch of a cross-platform TV channel set within the confines of a traditional media landscape.

On October 19, MAD's William and Mildred Lasdon Chief Curator Shannon R. Stratton (http://madmuseum.org/events/women-watch-2018) will moderate a conversation with artists Alice Hope (http://madmuseum.org/events/women-watch-2018) , Nadia Martinez (http://madmuseum.org/events/women-watch-2018) , and Barb Smith (http://madmuseum.org/events/women-watch-2018) in conversation about their work and the use of metal as an artistic medium. This talk is presented in partnership with the Greater New York Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
