<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>I wanted to send you a quick note to wish you and your family a safe and restful Labor Day.</strong> Some are celebrating out of town with family or friends, and some are staying at home to rest and catch up on the to-do list. Regardless of how you’re celebrating, we’re observing today to celebrate workers and their contribution to our country.</span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>Celebrating workers doesn’t just mean looking back over the strides labor has made over the course of our history</strong> - from the 13th Amendment prohibiting forced labor, to the National Labor Relations Act guaranteeing the ability to form unions and collectively bargain, to the Fair Labor Standards Act which established a minimum wage and overtime pay laws. </span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Labor Day is also a time to look ahead and embrace the fights that we still face today: making sure women are paid the same as men for equal work, giving everyone a shot at earning a fair, living wage regardless of zip code, and having the right to earn time off for illness, family or for vacation. </span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong></strong></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>We're fighting hard every day to get there.</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">On this day, I also want to encourage everyone to continue pressing leaders in Iowa and across the country to demand what we yet don't have. We need a livable wage. We need paid sick or family leave. We need equal pay. </span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">The good news is that our movement is winning -- people in states across the country are giving themselves raises and pressuring legislatures to guarantee leave.</span></p>
<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">That's a huge step in the right direction, but <strong>we have more work to do. I'm running to be Iowa's governor because I stand with workers today -- and every day!</strong></span></p>
