We are delighted to invite you to join us for a three-day adventure in Western New York State from Monday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 18. Beginning in Rochester, when fall foliage reaches peak color, this trip will offer behind-the-scenes access to artist studios, as well as VIP visits to the Corning Museum of Glass and Alfred University.

We will be joined by MADâs Assistant Curator Samantha De Tillio, whose current research focuses on the contemporary interplay between glass and performance. Samantha has curated and assisted on numerous exhibitions at MAD, including the acclaimed Judith Leiber: Crafting a New York Story (http://madmuseum.org/exhibition/judith-leiber) , and Wendell Castle Remastered (http://madmuseum.org/exhibition/wendell-castle-remastered) .

Highlights of our Monday in the Rochester area will include intimate studio visits with Albert Paley and Wendell Castle, both of whom are proudly featured in MADâs permanent collection. Paley is a distinguished modernist metal sculptor and blacksmith known for his monumental site-specific works, and the first metal sculptor to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects. Castle, fondly known as the father of American studio furniture movement, is a sculptor, designer, and educator whose innovative creations have been at the vanguard of handcrafted furniture design for decades.

We will spend Tuesday in Corning at the Corning Museum of Glass. Our visit will include an architectural tour of the new wing, followed by the opportunity to participate in a hands-on glassblowing workshop. We will then depart for Alfred University, where we will enjoy our last day with curator-led tours of the recently opened Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, including an exclusive tour of their collection storage, and the Universityâs student-run galleries.

The cost of this trip includes accommodations and meals for two nights and three days, as well as all tours, the workshop, and museum fees. Please note that transportation to Rochester is independent. We are providing return transportation to New York City.
