<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">As discussed earlier today in your class meeting, you will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 11. The Preliminary SAT (PSAT)<strong> </strong>is a standardized test administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Approximately 3.5 million students take the PSAT each year.<em><strong> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">These scores are not reported to colleges and are not part of the college admissions process.</span> </strong></em>The results will be available in late December/early January.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">The school has already purchased the exam, so there is nothing you need to do other than show up on the day of the exam by 8:00 a.m. in the Athletic Center with 2 no. 2 pencils. You are welcome to review what is going to be on the exam by looking at the Student Guide passed out earlier today. If you did not receive one, please stop by the College Counseling Office to pick one up.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Students who have been approved for accommodations through the College Board will be emailed separate instructions as exam day approaches. Please watch for an email that will detail test location and timing information. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Students were given a booklet that contained a PSAT Student Guide and National Merit Scholarship Program and were encouraged to use the information to prepare for the PSAT.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Benefits of taking the PSAT:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">1) Great practice for the real SAT I and results can be compared to the MOCK ACT that students sat for last May </span><span style="font-size: 14.6667px;">identifying</span><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> what </span><span style="font-size: 14.6667px;">standardized</span><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> test may be best to </span><span style="font-size: 14.6667px;">officially </span><span style="font-size: 11pt;">take in winter/spring.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">2) The possibility to receive National Scholarship money - <a href="https://webapps.pcrsoft.com/Campus/Common/Service.aspx?notId=543033&scn=Sidwell&linkId=2511">http://www.nationalmerit.org/</a> hit on tab <em>Scholarship Program </em>and then hit on tab <em>National Merit Scholarship Program.</em></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the college counseling office.</span></p>
<div><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Take care,</span></div>
