Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said Thursday that he has canceled a planned visit to Washington next week, a move that comes one day after President Donald Trump moved forward with an executive order to build a wall along America's southern border that he insists Mexico will pay for.

"This morning we told the White House we won't attend next Tuesday's meeting with @POTUS," Peña Nieto wrote on Twitter. "Mexico reiterates its will to work with the US to achieve agreements for both of us."

Peña Nieto has been unflinching in his stance that under no circumstances will his nation pay for Trump's border wall. The Mexican president's decision to cancel his trip to the White House followed a warning Thursday morning from Trump, who wrote on Twitter that "if Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting."
