Universities in the U.S. carry out critical research projects on a broad set of global development issues and train millions of people from developing countries, many of whom go on to be change makers in their societies. Studying in the U.S. exposes these students to new ideas and new approaches. American universities also give international students a greater understanding of our society-both our strengths and our shortcomings. Studying in the United States leads to a lifetime of commercial, academic, and personal ties. In short, the U.S. higher education system has been a vector for ensuring a freer, safer, and more prosperous world.
