President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Michael Avenatti made "false accusations" after the attorney announced that a woman he represents claimed Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh attended house parties in high school where women were sexually assaulted.

"Avenatti is a third rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations, like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh," Trump tweeted. "He is just looking for attention and doesn't want people to look at his past record and relationships - a total low-life!"

Avenatti's client, Julie Swetnick, accused Kavanaugh of spiking drinks with drugs to "target particular girls so they could be taken advantage of." Kavanaugh denied the allegations, saying he did not know who Swetnick was.
