CITY HALL (100 EAST MICHIGAN BLVD, MICHIGAN CITY, IN)

The DNR Permit Application No. LM-218 by Patrick Clifford of River Forest Illinois is to construct a 125 foot wide boulder revetment on Lake Michigan beach lakeward of an existing seawall behind the house at 2216 Lake Shore Drive in Long Beach, Indiana and would encroach upon and effectively privatize state of Indiana owned land held in trust for the public’s use as determined by the Indiana Supreme Court on February 14, 2018 in the case of Gunderson v. State, 90 N.E. 3d 1171 (Ind. 2018). This public hearing is the direct result of a request by LBCA and 47 residents and homeowners in Long Beach who signed a petition to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

It is imperative that concerned citizens attend this meeting to:

INSIST that the DNR deny this permit because it would allow construction of a private stone revetment on 125 ft of state-owned beach, all the way down to the water. DEMAND that the DNR fulfill its duty to protect the public’s right to use the beach and enforce the Gunderson decision. TELL the DNR that it has no authority to permit private construction on the public trust beach which will occupy and exclude the public and prevent the public from traversing the beach.
