Earlier this month, the Senate had a chance to reauthorize an innovative, cost-effective program with a long and proven track record of creating jobs and growing businesses. In years prior, Republicans heartily supported it. This year, they blocked it.

Then after weeks of important top-level negotiations over how to curb our staggering national debt, last week House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl walked away from the table.

I've only been in the Senate for seven months, but I've seen this frustrating pattern play out over and over again: GOP obstructionism that is grinding the Senate to an unproductive and dangerous halt.

Bipartisanship is actually very important to me, but not more so than restoring our economy and getting Americans back to work.

Holding crucial legislation hostage for political gain -- time and time again -- is absolutely wrong, and as long as I'm in the Senate, you can count on me to do everything I can to reject this hypocrisy and get our economy back on track.

To keep fighting for the interests of hard-working Delawareans in the face of Republican obstruction, I need your support -- now more than ever.

Creating jobs, responsibly tackling the budget crisis, improving education, drawing down our troops and refocusing our strategy in Afghanistan -- these are our priorities as Democrats.

Unfortunately, our opponents don't share those priorities. Rather than addressing our challenges together in the spirit of common values and shared sacrifice, Republicans in Congress have decided to play partisan politics.

That's why they block job creation legislation while refusing to let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy expire. That's why they want to keep giving tax breaks to big oil and gas companies rather than investing in the clean energy technologies of tomorrow.
