Dear R.,

Today, Katie and I will be joining thousands of Marylanders at parades around our state to celebrate Independence Day and we wanted to wish you and your family a happy holiday.

While the 4th of July is a nice time to spend with family enjoying Maryland's great outdoors and local products, it's also a time to reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women.

Over 200 years ago, brave men and women risked their lives for a country that they loved. And today, thousands of Marylanders continue that tradition.

So as we celebrate the Independence of our country today, let us also celebrate the men and women who continue to fight to protect our freedoms every day.

Happy 4th of July and thank you to all of our service men and women.
