<div> Dear Sophomore Parents,</div> <div> </div> <div> Yesterday, the Upper School Administration hosted a morning conversation with sophomore parents and some of you were inquiring about the new SAT. The College Counseling Team encourages you to attend the Sophomore Parent Night Program on Thursday, October 23 at 7pm in RLS Meeting Room for an overview of standardized testing including the new SAT.</div> <div> </div> <div> In the meantime, we wanted to share with you the following information regarding changes being made to the SAT which will impact your sophomore. </div> <div> In December of 2013, the College Board announced that revisions to the SAT will be implemented in the spring of 2016. As with previous test revisions, the PSAT will change first in the fall of 2015, and the SAT will follow. The new PSAT will serve as a preview for the new SAT.</div> <div> </div> <div> The revision is comprehensive, and there's no question that the SAT in 2016 will look significantly different from the current version. We've summarized key updates in the chart attached; headlines include the return to a 1600 scale, an optional essay, and shifts in approach to both vocabulary and math concepts.</div> <div> As a reminder - On Wednesday, October 15, sophomores will sit for the PSAT. For sophomores (who will be in line to take the redesigned SAT in March 2016) it is an opportunity to take a practice test with the current PSAT as they will have an opportunity to take the current SAT exam thru January 2016. Next fall, the class of 2017 will also take the newly designed PSAT in October 2015. College Board will offer practice information for the redesigned PSAT (i.e. sample questions) in Dec 2014/Jan 2015 and a full practice exam for the “new” PSAT in March 2015.</div> <div> </div> <div> The following link details the changes being made to the current version of the SAT: https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/sat/redesign.</div> <div> </div> <div> Best,</div> <div> The College Counseling Team</div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> Laurén B.
