Earlier this week former Vermont Governor Howard Dean met with General Bill Sorrell to cast early votes in the Vermont primary for Attorney General. Governor Dean endorsed General Sorrell on the steps of the Burlington City Hall, citing his experience in the role and his long time commitment to helping Vermonters. The former Governor said that General Sorrell “knows the job cold” during his tenure in office has done “everything we’ve asked, including some very tough things that would have been political unpopular.” Monday was the first day for early voting in the primary that takes place on August 28^th. General Sorrell is seeking his eighth elected term in 2012, the Vermont Attorney General race is held every two years. General Sorrell faces Chittenden County Attorney TJ Donovan in the Democratic primary this year, the winner will face Republican Jack McMullen in November. Mark Herring, a Democrat who represents Loudoun and Fairfax counties, announced Tuesday that he will run for attorney general in 2013. Herring kicked off his campaign by taking a shot at the current attorney general, Ken Cuccinelli II (R), whom he accused of using the office for an “ideological crusade,” and at the Republicans running to replace him. Gansler has asked the Supreme Court to decide whether collecting the genetic information before a person is convicted violates the Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure. The samples are used to link suspects to DNA evidence from previous crime scenes. The consortium was created through funding provided under the National Mortgage Settlement that was entered into earlier this year with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses and fraud, and unacceptable mortgage servicing practices. Delaware residents have been contacted via email, Facebook, text message, phone and door-to-door sales. Door to door solicitors sometimes wear what appear to be utility company uniforms.
