I found it! And sent it. This is the new one: Class #9 - March 18 - Diplomacy Versus Military Action: Multi-national Advocacy and Executive Decision-making to Address Conflict in Syria Discussion with a principal, stakeholder or subject matter expert. PLEASE NOTE - This session will be held at a location in Washington D.C., off the Georgetown University campus. More information about the class location will be provided during the week of March 4. Themes: o The power of the Executive to determine use of force absent an imminent threat to the national interest; o Diplomacy and consensus building vs. unilateral action; o The value of allies and antagonists in dealing with rogue state actors; o Weighing human rights against national interest; o The value/efficacy of international treaties (i.e CWC). 8 We will discuss the decision-making process that led to the United States choosing diplomacy over a use of force to address civil war in Syria. We will examine the events and statements by both the U.S. and other nations that led to the current state of affairs. We will focus on the various leaders, organizations, and government institutions that have influenced the world's reaction to conflict in Syria and particularly Bashar al-Assad's use of chemical weapons and other extreme measures to suppress political opposition.
