*Final SFS Family Community Service Project this year*: *Sunday, April 22, 12 pm - 4 pm. (Please note time change)* In celebration of Earth Day this year, we will be working with Behrend Builders at *The Farm at Walker Jones*, located at the corner of New Jersey and K Streets, NW DC. http://wjfarm.wordpress.com/urban-farm/ Food from the farm goes to students and families at Walker Jones Education Campus (a DCPS elementary school), the residents of two neighboring retirement communities, and DC Central Kitchen. On the farm, there is an outdoor classroom, herb and vegetable beds, tea garden, worm farms, and even a large-scale butterfly garden. We will be planting, mulching, pulling weeds, moving materials, and beautifying the area as needed. Behrend Builders will provide all necessary tools and materials. No previous experience required, just your time and willingness to help those in need in the DC community. This service project is organized specially for SFS families and is appropriate for ages nine through adult. We will be taking only 25 volunteers on this project, so please sign-up early to participate. For more information and to volunteer, please contact June Das Gupta<junedasgupta@msn.com>. *SFS/Medstar Health Blood Drive and Swab-a-Cheek, Save A Life: Wednesday, April 25, 2:00 pm - 4:45 pm, Wannan Gym. (Please note date change)* SFS will be hosting MedStar Health and Swab-a-Cheek, and invites students 17 years and older, parents, faculty and staff to take part in this important opportunity to give the gift of life. MedStar will be conducting our annual blood drive, and Swab a Cheek, Save a Life<http://www.swabacheek.org/>will be available to enroll donors in the Bone Marrow Registry. Please note that all students will need to complete a parental permission form to donate blood and/or register as a blood marrow donor. Contact David Connell<connelld@sidwell.edu>or call him at (202) 537-8182 to sign up as a donor, for more information and for parental permission forms. *US Community Service Day (9th - 11th Grades) : Friday May 18th, 8 am - 2:30 pm, Off-campus : Drivers needed* US students and faculty will be working on many community service projects in the metropolitan DC area on this day of service. To reduce the costs of transportation, David Connell is looking for volunteer adult drivers to help with transporting students and faculty to off-campus community service sites. Students and faculty will also be using public transportation and hired buses. Drivers will be needed to pick-up their passengers at school at 8 am to be dropped off at the sites, and to pick them up after completion of the service and dropped off at school by 1 pm. Drivers are welcome to participate in the service, but may opt to provide transportation only. If you can provide only pick-up or drop-off, we could still use your help - many drivers are needed! As there are complicated logistics and much planning involved to make this day a success, please respond to this request as soon as practicable, but no later than April 25. If you would like to volunteer as a driver, please contact June Das Gupta junedasgupta@msn.com with the number of passengers that you can transport, and any timing and/or location restrictions that you may have, and we will try to accommodate all requests as best as possible. 12 grade rep
