Dear Hunter, To the thousands of you who stood ready to defend marriage equality this past week: thank you. Joe and I are proud to stand with you. If you haven't signed your name yet, click here. [ https://services.myngp.com/ngponlineservices/petition.aspx?X=EDo61Vmbg18= ] Later this week, the Supreme Court of the United States is expected to begin hearing arguments in the case to overturn the Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA). Whatever the outcome, we will continue to stand with you and fight for equality and fairness - the very principles that define this country. From Massachusetts to the Supreme Court, the battle is not over. Thank you for being a leader on this issue. - Lauren --------------------------------------- Dear Hunter, In 2004, I was 1,600 miles away from Massachusetts, just starting my two-year Peace Corps stint in the Dominican Republic. As a pale-skinned, red-haired kid from Boston, I was a quick novelty – a de facto ambassador from a strange place that wore its freezing winters and heartbreaking sports teams as a badge of honor. Lucky for me, 2004 was a good time to be from Massachusetts. That year, the Sox won the World Series. The Patriots won the Superbowl. Sen. Kerry was on the presidential ballot. And Massachusetts became the first state in the nation to guarantee true marriage equality. It’s been nearly a decade since then. But the fight for true equality is far from over. Next week, the Supreme Court will begin deciding whether to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a move that would – finally – ensure that every American has the right to love and marry who they choose. I hope you will add your name now in support. [ https://services.myngp.com/ngponlineservices/petition.aspx?X=EDo61Vmbg18= ] We’re trying to gather as many names as possible to send the message that it's time to get rid of DOMA once and for all. Will you join us? [ https://services.myngp.com/ngponlineservices/petition.aspx?X=EDo61Vmbg18= ] I believe who you love is up to you – not your government. It gets back to the most basic ideas of fairness and equality that this country was built on. Click here and add your name to the thousands of other people across the country who are standing up and saying do away with DOMA. [ https://services.myngp.com/ngponlineservices/petition.aspx?X=EDo61Vmbg18= ] Thank you, - Joe Paid for by Joe Kennedy for Congress P.O.
