The series will showcase some of the landmark and controversial productions from Egypt since 2000. During this period, Egyptian cinema, the most established and productive film industry in the Arab world, underwent a significant transformation due to factors including privatization, the rise of a new generation of filmmakers and a burgeoning independent film collective, all of which contributed to an increasingly dynamic cinema. Each film will be followed by a brief discussion moderated by Dr. Adel Iskandar. A group of left-wing secular Jewish intellectuals who fled their native Vienna before WWII, became refugees and fought with the Allied forces decided to return to Vienna after the war, believing they could help rebuild their country as a place where it could never happen again. H.E. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is an international entrepreneur, former governor of Nigeria's Abia State, and the head of the Njiko Igbo movement. He is the owner and founder of SLOK Nigeria Ltd., a leading shipper of oil from Africa to China, and the popular daily newspaper, the Sun. Mr. Watanabe is a director of foreign and security policy research and senior fellow of the Tokyo Foundation, an independent think tank in Tokyo. In October 2008, Watanabe joined the Tokyo Foundation after serving a senior fellow at the Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute in Tokyo since April 2005. He is currently researching U.S.-Japan relations, Japan’s foreign and security policy, and U.S politics and policies. In 1995, Watanabe joined Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. He has served a visiting research scholar, research associate, fellow, senior fellow and currently adjunct fellow.
