Wednesday - February 12, 2014 From the School Message from Lee As part of our digital citizenship curriculum, we had a special collection on Monday with alums Baratunde Thurston and Julia Lyton-Boelte who spoke about “unplugging” in the digital age. In preparation for this collection, students watched videos on digital citizenship and then went to advisory in which the following query was used for discussion: How can our values as a Quaker community inform our technology use? If you would like to read the article that Baratunde wrote about his experience unplugging for 26 days, please click here. 10th Grade Parent Evening with College Counseling has been postponed in anticipation of snow on Thursday. We will send an email blast to 10th grade parents as soon as it is rescheduled. Collection today will be the Black Student Union Black History Month Show. The show will also be presented on Friday, February 14th at 7:00pm for parents, families and friends in the Arts Center Theater. A tradition that began in the 1980s, the program incorporates original student content with songs, poems, and other material from established authors. The cast is made up of students from the Lower, Middle, and Upper School. Parents of Black Students (PBS) is holding a reception after the evening performance of the show on Friday. There will be no school on Monday, February 17 for Presidents’ Day. The course selection process for school year 2014/2015 will begin next Wednesday, February 19, with a presentation of next year’s curriculum at Collection for the students and at 7:00 PM in the Robert L. Smith Meeting Room for Upper School parents. The powerpoint used for the program and the curriculum guide for 2014/2015 will also be posted on the website that day. If you have questions or concerns at any point in this process, I encourage you to communicate with your child’s advisor. Please contact Mamadou Guèye, Upper School Academic Dean, if you have any general questions about course selection. Re-Enrollment for 2014-15 IMPORTANT – The re-enrollment process for 2014-15 is currently underway. You can access your child’s contract through the parent portal. The contract along with deposit must be submitted by Friday, February 21, 2014. Call the Admissions Office at 202-537-8111 with any questions.
