Subject: Re: Headline for the leading Undergrad Journal in International Affairs

Hunter, I hope all is well with you. I just wanted to follow up to see in you if you had heard back from your father's staff about his willingness to provide an article he has written or speech he has delivered that we could publish in this year's Journal of International Affairs.

As previously discussed, it can also be a new piece that he or his staff would craft that focuses on the importance of public service and/or careers in international affairs.Either way we would be pleased and honored to have the Vice President as the headliner for the 2014 Edition of the Journal.

The goal of the IR program is to expose students to a rigorous course of study in international relations so that they might become leaders in the field.
As you may recall, the Journal is edited and produced by the students at the University of Pennsylvania and is now the premier undergraduate journal of international relations in the US.

Thanks again for your help and do let me know when you come to Penn so I can take you to lunch. All the best, Jim McGann

Dear Mr. Biden, my friend and colleague at CSIS, Andrew Schwartz suggested that I write to you regarding my request to have Vice President Biden be this year's headliner for the journal for the International Relations Honor Society. The Journal of International Relations is the leading undergraduate journal of international affairs in the US and it is produced at the University of Pennsylvania. As I frequently say, our students do everything but print the Journal.

A distinguished group of heads of State, Senior Diplomats and CEOs of the WTO, World Bank and WHO have been our headliners over the last 5-7 years. Given your father's long commitment to public service, his role as a senior statesmen and a proud grandfather of some of Penn's finest students and alum we would be pleased and honored to have him serve as this year's headliner for the Journal.
I serve as the faculty adviser for the Journal so I have attached a formal letter of invitation from this year's Editor-in-Chief, Arielle Klepach.

Thanks for you time and consideration. All the best, Jim McGann
