R.hunter, I wanted to make sure you saw Chris's email. Secret money has no place in a free and fair election process. Voters have the right to know exactly who is spending to influence their votes. With elections at hand, it is critical that we ensure the integrity of every vote cast. Will you join with Chris today to stand up against secret money? Click here to immediately sign the petition and demand that Congress end the influence of secret money by requiring public disclosure. http://endsecretmoney.com/?code=coons-2-nat Thank you for standing with us. Alex ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chris Coons Date: Thu, Feb 13, 2014 Subject: Secret Money Friend, Fair elections and secret money are like oil and water. They don't mix. The Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United has chipped away at the foundation of our democracy by constituting limitless, undisclosed spending as "free speech." Delawareans and Americans don't know where the money comes from, and have no idea what agenda shadowy benefactors are spending in service of. That is wrong. It has played an outsized role in deciding key races, and it cannot continue. If someone is willing to put their money behind a political ad, they should be willing to attach their name to it. We need to speak out to fix the Court's mistake and undo the disastrous effects of Citizens United. Join with my colleagues and me in speaking out to put people before special interests, preserve our elections, and preserve our democracy. Click here to sign the petition to Stand Against Secret Money and call on Congress to require public disclosure. http://endsecretmoney.com/?code=coons-2-nat Campaign advertising is an unfortunate reality of modern-day elections. With millions of dollars in secret money hitting the airwaves, attack ads from shadowy third parties are drowning out any legitimate discussion of issues. That's why I support the public disclosure of all major campaign expenditures by third party interests. By requiring political groups posing as charities to disclose their donors, Congress can shine a light on who is funneling secret money into our voting process. Every voter deserves to exercise this most basic American right - our right to vote - without secret spending clouding the legitimacy of our elections. Add your name to the fight against secret money this minute. Click here to demand that Congress protect our right to cast an informed vote. http://endsecretmoney.com/?code=coons-2-nat Thank you for standing with us to protect free and fair elections.
