'I ACCEPT YOUR NOMINATION' - "Clinton decries Trump's 'Midnight in America,'" by Katie Glueck: "The former secretary of state, senator and first lady promised 'steady leadership' and harshly questioned Trump's ability to serve as commander-in-chief while also painting America as an optimistic, inclusive country starkly at odds with the images of stagnation, division and weakness that Trump conjures. 'In the end, it comes down to what Donald Trump doesn't get: that America is great - because America is good,' she said. 'So enough with the bigotry and bombast. Donald Trump's not offering real change.' ... Clinton argued that she was uniquely prepared to lead America in taking on those
challenges, particularly in the national security realm ... and went on to question whether Trump has the judgment and temperament - let alone familiarity with the issues - to lead the U.S. military. 'Ask yourself: Does Donald Trump have the temperament to be Commander-in-Chief? Donald Trump can't even handle the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign,' she said. 'He loses his cool at the slightest provocation. When he's gotten a tough question from a reporter. When he's challenged in a debate. When he sees a protester at a rally. Imagine him in the Oval Office facing a real crisis,' she continued. 'A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.'"

- "Five takeaways from Clinton's biggest speech yet," by POLITICO's Glenn Thrush: "Hillary Clinton wants you to vote for her. Or, go ahead, vote against Donald Trump. She's not picky. ...Here was history - Clinton was the first woman to accept the nomination of her party in the country's history - but history buffeted in the maelstrom of the most bitter, negative and most unpredictable election in modern history. And that history took second place to Clinton's electoral imperative of making Americans like her - or at least like her enough to cast a vote for her. Yet the defining characteristic of Clinton's big night was just how much of it was devoted to someone who wasn't her, and wasn't
even in the hall - Donald Trump, whom she defined as a clownish, bullying existential threat to democracy who needed to be beaten as badly as she needed to be elected." Read on for more takeaways: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e31706c4dadd5f4a7d130641a5e64b7f36637bc30b56f5e14e

101 DAYS TO GO - "Be afraid: The Clinton-Trump general election begins," by POLITICO's Shane Goldmacher: "For four days here in this city of brotherly love and the nation's founding, Democrats wrapped themselves in the language of patriotism and positivity, declaring the country would be 'stronger together' as they nominated Hillary Clinton to serve as the first woman president. ... But as the 102-day general election sprints to a start, the reality is that both parties, saddled with two of the most unpopular presidential nominees ever, are bracing for one of the ugliest and most divisive races in modern history. And with Trump's penchant for the unpredictable, a contest that has already
stretched the boundaries of traditional American political discourse is unlikely to become any more civil. For all the talk of hope and optimism in Philadelphia, fear remains the most potent emotion stirring the base - of both parties. President Obama warned pointedly of 'homegrown demagogues' this week in the same breath as 'fascists' and 'jihadists.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e358b3ee058521279a0668fdee5951905cb9e5abcbcd11b29f

REPUBLICAN VILLAIN, PARTY OF ONE - "Clinton stars as bogeyman in down-ballot GOP ads," by Campaign Pro's Theodoric Meyer: "Congressional Republicans are starting to adopt a playbook their Democratic counterparts have been foreshadowing for months: tying their presidential nominee to down-ballot candidates. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) debuted a new TV ad on Monday highlighting Hillary Clinton's email scandal, before cutting to a clip of his Democratic rival, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, calling herself a 'Hillary supporter.' GOP Sen. Marco Rubio's first TV ad in Florida lumps Clinton together with Rubio's two Democratic opponents as 'three liberals with dangerous ideas on fighting terror.' And the
Republican Governors Association's super PAC went up with a new ad in Indiana this week calling Democrat John Gregg 'one of Hillary Clinton's most vocal supporters.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3c929d9c4ec579f3efec07a12780f0f0fa8ab17608c0f647c

WIDER-SPREAD PROBLEM? - "FBI investigates hacking of Democratic congressional group," by Reuters' Joseph Menn, Dustin Volz and Mark Hosenball: "The FBI is investigating a cyber intrusion at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that may be related to an earlier hack at the Democratic National Committee, said four sources familiar with the matter on Thursday. The previously unreported incident at the DCCC, which raises money for Democrats running for seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, may have been intended to gather information about donors, rather than to steal money, the sources said." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e339c4ec719324773a3d58f7df409397876718f614bd6bc6bd

- "Hackers suspected in new attack on Democrats," by POLITICO's Bob King and Tim Starks: "The latest hack, aimed at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, was perpetrated by one the two Russian-based groups previously blamed for rifling through the DNC's computer networks and making off with emails and other documents, a security expert familiar with the latest breach told POLITICO. But this new attack 'appears to be a bit different,' the source said. 'It's part of a broader intelligence collection effort,' the source said, adding: 'It's maybe an attempt to harvest credentials. ... It's not an email grab like the DNC.'" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3b0a28ee008fb887912f330486778d51fd0e05b121e79ab1b

FIRST IN SCORE - ESAFund doubling down on Marshall: The super PAC has crossed the $1 million spending mark in Kansas' 1st District Republican primary, where it is opposing Rep. Tim Huelskamp, per a source familiar with the group's spending. The group, chaired by the Ricketts family, has upped its television buy on broadcast and cable stations in the district and released a new spot. The 30-second ad features farmers who say Huelskamp "lied" to them. "[He] voted against the farm bill and even threatened me and my company, we knew, Tim Huelskamp is no farmer, he's a 20-year politician," says Tom Willis, a Kansas farmer who narrates the ad. "Huelskamp cares more about Washington special
interests than western Kansas." The ad ends with Willis urging viewers to vote for physician Roger Marshall. Watch the ad here: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e39f9248dfdb514a60be521e4c5c7b0071695698d6fdefe4f4

SCOOP - PRIMARY MEDDLING - "DGA attacks Greitens days before Missouri GOP primary," by Campaign Pro's Maggie Severns: "A political group affiliated with the Democratic Governors Association is reserving ad time to attack GOP gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens in Missouri, seeking to affect the race just five days before Republicans choose their nominee from a crowded field. ...The ad is set to start airing Friday. Audio, which a source said was from the ad, criticizes Greitens for accepting money from a donor accused of sexually abusing a woman." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3d1a3f595982a94139f5c60777c9359c9f3643b65c60045d5

COUNTDOWN TO 2021 - "Democrats woo donors for big redistricting fight," by POLITICO's Edward-Isaac Dovere: "Democratic leaders and senior operatives brought together 50 top donors here Thursday afternoon to prepare for the launch of a new 527 group committed to a six-year redistricting fight. The new outfit will be a clearinghouse for raising and directing money, operatives tell POLITICO, but also organize priorities for a wide coalition of Democratic and Democratic-aligned groups across the country, down to directing in which states to try to get redistricting initiatives on the ballot in and even identifying pivotal state Senate and assembly races to make national focuses. President
Barack Obama has already been briefed on the effort, aides say, and is likely to make campaigning and fundraising for the group one of his post-presidency priorities. It dovetails with a new effort focusing on state legislative races that the president is launching for the fall." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3af41e5ea66ee9402424e8dd0feb84d3bfbe7a9e83a4e077b

THE OTHER GRAYSON - "Sex, 'lies,' and the Grayson family drama," by POLITICO Florida's Marc Caputo: "As Rep. Alan Grayson's Senate campaign began falling apart over allegations he beat his ex-wife, he blasted out a new robocall touting a Grayson for U.S. House campaign. Grayson, however, wasn't dropping out of the Senate race and running for reelection. He instead was phoning Wednesday on behalf of his new wife, Dena Minning Grayson. She married him during the election season on Memorial Day, when she was running as Dena Minning. She promptly changed her last name and began campaigning as his ideological and familial heir in a district where she didn't live and was once a complete political
unknown. But now that Alan Grayson is bleeding support and staff as top fellow Democrats call on him to quit the Senate race, Dena Grayson's relationship with her new husband is starting to vex her." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3cebfb1ba21f50ef03ddb3b51dd3d3c5f3ac9dfd84b888cee

POLL WATCH - Suffolk Pennsylvania poll, splitting from the pack, has McGinty well ahead: A new Suffolk University poll of Pennsylvania's Senate race has Democrat Katie McGinty leading GOP Sen. Pat Toomey 43 percent to 36 percent. Twenty percent of voters said they were undecided. McGinty's edge was very similar to Hillary Clinton's in the poll, with the Democratic presidential nominee leading Donald Trump 46 percent to 37 percent in a multi-candidate field. ...The most recent polls from Pennsylvania have varied wildly, ranging from big Toomey leads to others that are tighter, mostly showing a small Toomey advantage. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e3dc86eae3691f1efbc11f9de30379a78b6e88dcfce3a1c8c3

PRESIDENTIAL SPEED READ - "Hillary donors to Bernie supporters: Shut up," by POLITICO's Kenneth P. Vogel and Isaac Arnsdorf: " Bernie Sanders and his supporters during the Democratic primary railed against Hillary Clinton's big donors, but now those big donors are pushing back. There is a widespread sense among major donors who gathered here that supporters of her vanquished rival Sanders have overstepped their bounds with their protests and heckling of speakers, according to interviews with about a dozen donors and fundraisers. ...In some ways, the Democratic National Convention represents a coming out party of sorts for Clinton's army of major donors, who mostly kept a low profile during
a primary in which both Sanders and eventual Republican nominee Donald Trump got traction with attacks on the corrupting power of big money in politics." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e37f4554b5c03a17ed17b6bafeda23497cef0abbd252be5f45

- "In Hillary Clinton's Nomination, Women See a Collective Step Up," by The New York Times' Jodi Kantor: "The president would know what it is like to be pregnant. Top military leaders would answer to a female boss, when there has never even been a woman on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Workplaces and home life could be transformed through expanded parental leave and pay equity. Or nothing could change. The symbolism would be supernova-level. The backlash could be withering. On Thursday night, 240 years into an unbroken chain of all-male leadership, Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for president. The country may be one hard-fought election away from a woman in charge, making a
question that has always been abstract more concrete: How could having a woman as president alter the experience of being an American woman?" http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e31cdf884a8d199498a762b2e32db0f39b00ced184d1d84377

- "The Quiet Existential Crisis of Moderate Democrats in Philadelphia," by Buzzfeed's Evan McMorris Santoro and John Stanton: "If you look hard, you can find the moderate Democrats here. There are, in fact, Democrats who really like TPP and Democrats who'd rather not talk about how bad the NRA is, lest they run afoul of voters who live between cities. Hillary Clinton is a candidate Democrats like those Democrats like. But her convention is one they don't love. Philadelphia looks a lot more like a Bernie Sanders policy conference than it does a 1990s Bill Clinton Democratic Leadership Council, tie-dye-under-oxford-shirt celebration. Night one saw Bernie fans booing everything. Nights two and
three featured many Democrats begging those Bernie fans to stop booing and vote for Hillary Clinton with speeches that focused on police violence, gun control, liberal immigration policy, abortion rights, and the dangers of free trade." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=2b6ec4843e8021e331fff0f1c126706f151d44f4fcef1ba69f628c32bed062fd

CODA - QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Tonight, we've reached a milestone in our nation's march toward a more perfect union: the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president." - Hillary Clinton, accepting the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night.
