Dear Hunter, As the son of immigrants and and a first-generation American, I understand that our nation was built on the contributions of immigrants. I believe that as a nation we should not close our doors or turn our backs, and that immigrants currently living in America or who wish to come here should have the same opportunity to pursue the American dream as did our families. My strong commitment to comprehensive immigration reform is based on the benefits that such reform would bring our nation, our economy, our communities and our families. We need to pursue policies that unite families and do not tear them apart. We need to reform our immigration laws so that they are better adapted to the needs of America’s economy and workforce in the 21st century global economy. As Lieutenant Governor, I was a strong advocate in passing the Maryland DREAM Act and I advocated for the creation of a DREAM Fund. In Congress, I will fight for a path to full citizenship, the DREAM Act and an immigration policy that meets the needs of our economy, replacing the current system with one that is effective, safe, legal and orderly.
