RYAN SAILS TO VICTORY-House Speaker Paul Ryan easily crushed his primary opponent Paul Nehlen Tuesday and now wants everyone to go about their usual business as he tries to get back to promoting his GOP policy agenda while answering questions about Donald Trump's latest misstep.

"Ryan romped to victory despite Nehlen's success tapping into anti-Washington sentiment and a surge of late media attention following compliments from Trump. The outcome shows while Trump is now the standard-bearer of the GOP the party, in some parts of the country - like Ryan's southeast Wisconsin district - Ryan's brand of traditional conservatism still reigns supreme," Rachael Bade reports.

Scary stuff doesn't stick: "In times as uncertain as these, it is easy to resort to division; it's easy to pray on people's fears," Ryan said during a press conference after his victory. "But that stuff doesn't sell. It doesn't stick. It doesn't last. Most of all, it doesn't work. Around here we look beyond the noise." Sore loser? As of 12:30 a.m., Nehlen still hadn't called Ryan to concede.

WHEN BAD QUIPS GO BAD- Ryan also addressed the latest Donald Trump controversy-you know, Trump saying "Second Amendment people" could stop Clinton if she's elected-by essentially writing the quip off as a bad joke that he shouldn't have said. "Speaking at a news conference Tuesday night in Wisconsin after his landslide win in a GOP primary, Ryan said he hadn't actually heard Trump's remarks but he had heard about them. 'I've been a little busy,' Ryan said. 'It sounds like a joke gone bad. You should never joke about that. I hope he clears it up quickly,'" reports Rachael. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bc1830b1ad26fd6ded700753c1bb94e2a5a60b7b2ed94a94f

Dump Trump: Former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey penned a letter pleading with the RNC to dump Trump, calling his Second Amendment comments the "last straw." Nick Gass: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bbeef7591194c5b797d12f67d1a80efcfffecc7540889803c

FIRST IN HUDDLE: DCCC ROADMAP FOR NOVEMBER- With 90 days to go until the election, the DCCC is unveiling its roadmap today for beating House Republicans and the message is simple: You can't escape the top of the ticket. Hillary Clinton is trouncing Trump in several swing House districts, party officials say in a new memo obtained by your Huddle host that touts the party's down-ballot prospects in November but does not predict they'll capture the chamber.

You're bringing me down man: "Donald Trump's likely defeat in many swing districts will be a devastating anchor that drags down House Republicans all across the country," wrote DCCC Executive Director Kelly Ward. My story: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bfb9ccc37b9d5aa06d33c8514429df22a72d8fe47626e5480

WOOHOO, IT'S WEDNESDAY, August 10. You're reading POLITICO's Huddle, the play-by-play guide to all things Capitol Hill. Big congrats to our women's gymnastics team for bringing home the team gold in Rio Tuesday! I would celebrate by doing a handstand but then one of you would need to take me to the hospital and who would write Huddle?

TODAY IN CONGRESS - Capitol Hill gets moving again in 27 days.

AROUND THE HILL- Today's jam: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bc092c5f2479fd9623f61d7c468369f2be711ea8d43853f7a

MORE RACE RESULTS FROM TUESDAY- Former conservative radio host Jason Lewis won a four-way primary, securing the GOP spot in the swing district race to replace retiring Rep. John Kline. CLINTON CALLS OUT CONGRESS ON ZIKA- Clinton was down in Florida Tuesday criticizing Congress for going on recess without first passing a Zika funding bill, "injecting a new dose of presidential politics into the legislative fight that's put Capitol Hill on defense during much of the summer session," report Seung Min Kim and Sergio Bustos. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bdcfc05ab399bc296cc1e80fe1a84b77021768d9b1598e28f

SHOWING A LITTLE LOVE-Clinton also managed to show a little love to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz ahead of her competitive Aug. 30 primary. The Democratic presidential nominee made an unexpected stop at Wasserman Schultz's campaign office Tuesday afternoon to give a wholehearted endorsement of her friend, reports Marc Caputo.

The Democratic trinity: "In securing Clinton's endorsement, Wasserman Schultz lays claim to the support of the Democratic trinity: the presidential nominee, President Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden. And while endorsements don't guarantee victory, the backing of the party's most-recognizable figures in Florida's 23rd Congressional District is expected to go a long way in Wasserman Schultz's race against Tim Canova." Meanwhile, in Bernieland: Sen. Bernie Sanders was also doing a little campaigning of his own Tuesday, sending out a fundraising pitch for Canova and hitting Wasserman Schultz on the DNC email scandal. KIRK, DOLD TOUT IMMIGRATION BONA FIDES - Two Illinois Republicans fighting hard to keep their seats this fall - Sen. Mark Kirk and Rep. Bob Dold - will tout their pro-immigration bona fides at a roundtable later this morning in Chicago hosted by the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition and FWD.us, the pro-reform group founded by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg.

A little help from my friends: The two vulnerable lawmakers will be accompanied by Florida Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, a veteran GOP advocate of immigration reform, and their opening remarks are a far cry from the broader Republican Party platform espoused by Donald Trump that primarily focused on building a wall along the southern border and opposing "any form of amnesty" for immigrants here illegally.

A sneak peek of Kirk's opening remarks: "The American dream unlocks human potential faster and better than any other. I am committed to working across the aisle to reform our immigration policies and unlock the full potential of the men and women in our state who will build businesses and boost the Illinois economy."

And Dold will talk about Erika Martinez, a so-called Dreamer whom Dold brought as his guest to the State of the Union last year: "Every day that Congress fails to act on immigration reform, families like Erika's are forced to continue living in fear of being torn apart. Although divisive, partisan rhetoric may make for better TV, today's forum is proof that there is bipartisan support to move immigration reform forward." The event begins at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be livestreamed here: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bae7b5423dbee83999a212543815fdfe5eaeffefd64d4b290

NEED A STAMP FOR THAT? Turns out that vulnerable House members send way more tax-payer funded mail to their districts than lawmakers in safe seats. The Roll Call analysis: "On average, members running for re-election in non-safe districts spent $172 per day on mail franking. That's far more than the $63 per day that members in safe districts have spent." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bb49e21281c3b41d5f5165afefa92038d391b0ddff2f54d92

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS PATRICK MURPHY? "Democrat Patrick Murphy talks often about needing to introduce himself to Florida voters. To illustrate his efforts, the U.S. Senate candidate has, for months, claimed an aggressive campaign schedule - 'dozens and dozens' of events from Key West to Pensacola in the past year. But this summer, the Jupiter congressman has actually had relatively few public campaign stops - prompting opponents to accuse him of hiding from voters with less than three weeks to go before the Aug. 30 primary and as mail-in ballots are already being cast," reports the Miami Herald's Kristen Clark. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3bc08206cb6d0e73bf558ba883ffd90dc201f02b0be990ead1

NO LEAPFROGGING FOR BAYH-Indiana Senate candidate (and former senator) Evan Bayh won't be able to reclaim seniority and leapfrog Sen. Sherrod Brown for the top Banking Committee spot should Bayh win his election, reports Roll Call's Niels Lesniewski. Banking lobbyists had speculated that Bayh could jump Brown and "be in line to take the committee's chairmanship if Democrats retake control of the Senate."

But: "A senior Democratic aide effectively ended that speculation Tuesday afternoon. 'There's no doubt Senator Brown will have the top slot on the banking committee next year,' the aide told Roll Call." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3b14635e9e2010eefc9b43903217cb2d60eedb7e0130a7d6dd

MAN OF THE PEOPLE BUYS EXPENSIVE VACATION HOME- Sen. Bernie Sanders, who spent months railing against Wall Street and riling up the progressive left, has just purchased some new digs in Vermont for nearly $600,000. Seven Days with more: "Sanders' new crib has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront on the east side of the island - facing Vermont, not New York. The Bern will keep his home in Burlington and use the new camp seasonally." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=c4a1cc4ea14c7c3b18058cd8a254eb145faac3d7ed2303b1fdfdcbb4461bd402

TUESDAY'S TRIVIA WINNER - Arik Wolk was the first to guess that Rep. Ted Yoho is the large-animal vet who knocked off incumbent Cliff Stearns in 2012.

TODAY'S TRIVIA - Arik with today's question: Despite representing one of the richest districts in country, this outgoing lawmaker has one of the lowest net worths in Congress. Name the lawmaker, the district and the candidates on the ballot to fill the seat. The first person to correctly answer gets a shout-out in tomorrow's Huddle. Email me: hcaygle@politico.com
