I played really well actually. Talk soon, Jay Dear Supporters and Friends, Yesterday was an amazing day for me! I had the opportunity to play a game I love, raise monies for a charity that I am passionate about, and spend the day with friends and supporters. The weather was great for a DC August day. I have been amazed and humbled by the support of friends, and most importantly, members of TPC Potomac. The support of TPC Potomac members has been inspiring and I had no doubt that I would achieve my goals. First off, yesterday could not have been accomplished without Brian Parcel, Ted Wroth, and Robb Wong. Each of these gentlemen were with me from the first shot at 6:00 am to the final putt at 6:45 pm. Brian drove my cart all day and kept me laughing, motivated, and focused to the task. Robb Wong REALLY kept me laughing but fixed every ball mark, washed every golf ball, and tended every flag stick. Ted Wroth spotted every golf ball and provided every yardage before I arrived to the golf ball. I am indebted to them.... Also, thank you to Scott Pugh for lunch exactly when it was needed and Ray Hernan for the timely support! Thank you to my "sunset gallery" supporters of Laura Sildon and The McGarrity Family! RECAP and HIGHLIGHTS: - I played golf for 12 hours and 45 minutes straight while completing my *goal of 180 holes!* - I played the SILVER TEES all day. - Tee It Forward everyone and have fun with the game!!! - I played, quite honestly, the best golf I have played in 20 years. My scores for the 10 rounds were 73, 76, 74, 76, 72, 66, 69, 68, 72, and 73 for a 10 round avg. of 71.9 - Something to be said for not thinking and just hitting the golf ball! - I made an eagle of Hole #18 with a PW on the first round of the day. The four of us woke the neighbors at 7:10 am hooting and hollering. It was fun. - I made the most birdies on hole #2 and #14, 6 birdies in 10 rounds on each hole. - Hole #16 was my nemesis with a stroke avg. of 4.5 - Must be the tough pin position! - I played the Front 9 in an avg. of 35.5 strokes and the back in 36.4 strokes. - I made 7 birdies when I shot 66. - Putter was hot and I hit 15 greens. - I averaged 1 hour and 19 minutes for each 18 holes played. My quickest round was 1 hour and 10 minutes. - Need pace of play tips? See your local PGA professional! - I played with 11 golf balls, played in 2 golf shirts, 2 pairs of shoes, and 2 pairs of socks. Brian will tell you I needed 3 golf shirts, 3 pairs....I was pretty ripe by 6:45pm! - On the eve of my 40th Birthday, this old man is sore. I mean very sore. :) Most importantly......Drum roll please.......because of your support I have raised approx. $18,500 which blew away my goal of $10,000! Again, thank you for supporting me and a great cause. Also, Thank you to Stephen Britton and his team for allowing me to play a beautiful and well maintained golf course. You and your staff are the best! I had to share this amazing fundraising effort by Josh Marr, the HCCC Head Pro. On Monday Josh literally *hit and ran* at Hidden Creek during an incredible 16-hour golf marathon to raise funds for the* Wounded Warriors*. Amazingly he also: Shot an average of 73 per round -- with no gimmies. Finished 270 holes -- 15 roundsof 18 holes in 16 hours!!!! Averaged 1 hour and 10 minutes per round. When all of the per hole pledges are in he will have raised over $15,000 for * the Troops First Foundation*. During the 16-hour marathon (he started at 5 am playing in the pitch dark with a glow ball) Josh played 270 holes of golf with over 20 fellow HCCC golfer serving as the support team, as card caddies, forecaddies, "putter caddies", food runners and cheering squad. A couple of photos below. I had to share. As a golfer I was blown away. Even non-golfers can appreciate what an effort this was and how completely exhausting it must have been. Simply amazing.
