We have never had fewer veterans in Congress than we do today—at a time when we face unprecedented challenges around the globe and terrible divisions here at home.

I believe electing more veterans will help us get Washington working again. Marines in my platoon came from all over the country, with different religious beliefs and different political beliefs, and yet we were all able to set those differences aside to do what’s best for America. In the end, our differences only made us stronger as a team. We need that same spirit of selfless service in Congress today—we need more leaders who are willing to put progress ahead of politics, and country ahead of self.
