Subject: July Board Meeting Summary

Praise the Lord! On July 19, the skies opened up and dumped 2.85 inches of rain on Long Beach. Lakes Claire and Ann are full again, which allows us to water the course using the water from Lake Ann until mid-August. That date assumes there is no rain between now and then. So, there is no need to talk about an assessment to pay for water at this time. And, if we get some degree of normalcy with the rainfall for the rest of the summer, then we will no longer have to worry about buying water from the city.

Here are some interesting facts about the water situation:

• We purchased water for ten days in July
• The cost of the water totaled $8,144, or a little over $800 a day; quite a bit higher than our original estimate of $650 per day
• In those ten days, we purchased over 4 million gallons of water
• We watered only the greens and the fairways
• There is now enough water in the lakes to allow us to start watering the rough

Please don’t stop praying for rain. We’re not out of the woods yet.

On August 12 at 4:30 PM in the dining room, the Club will hold its annual meeting. All Regular members are encouraged to attend. Below are the agenda items that will require a vote:


* Election of directors
* A by-law change creating the addition of a Medical Leave of Absence
* Designation of the Stop 19 Pub as the only approved smoking area inside the clubhouse. Even though this rule has been in place for at least three years, Indiana’s new smoking law requires that we make it formal by voting on it at the annual meeting. Your Board of Directors recommends a vote in favor of the designated smoking area.

I hope all of you have enjoyed the Club this summer as much as I have. Our golf course, kitchen and dining room staffs are top notch. The next time you see Brian Godfrey and Annette Corbett thank them for their outstanding leadership and service to our members.
