<P align=center>~Local First Responders make reelection about the region’s public safety~</P>
<P>St. Louis MO – U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan (D) and candidate for reelection in the new 1st Congressional District of Missouri received the official endorsement of St.Louis City’s Local 73 and St. Counties Local 2665 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO, CLC (IAFF). The two IAFF locals collectively represent nearly 3,000 active and retired firefighters, paramedics and dispatchers between St. Louis City and Counties. </P>
<P>“Firefighters have been running towards the tough fights for the St. Louis region for decades,” said Carnahan. “Now they are joining me in my reelection effort foranother tough one and with their support I’m confident we’re going to win.” </P>
<P>Last year, Congressman Carnahan worked with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to secure a $3.2. Million SAFER grant that was awarded to the St. Louis Fire Department, which resulted in the rehiring of 30 firefighters who were laid off due to budget cuts. He also was essential in the department receiving a $789,200 grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA) to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, emergency vehicles and training.</P>
<P>In IAFF Local 73’s endorsement, Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus Bill Hill said of Carnahan, “We have every confidence that Russ will continue to be a leader whowill respond to the challenges facing our region. We know while he’s in Washington that we’ll always have a champion for our public safety."</P>
<P>“Russ has always had the back of the first responders in the region,” added Mark Woolbright, IAFF Vice President and Local 2665 member. “Whether it’s trying to find ways to save jobs in the region or ensuring that we have top of the line equipment and training, we know the public safety community has a true fighter for our issues in Russ Carnahan.”</P>
