Dear 7th Grade Parents, We look forward to having your child join us for Alana Barry’s Bat Mitzvah on Saturday,May 5th at Temple Micah. Since the Temple is located two blocks south of the Washington National Cathedral, and the Cathedral is hosting its annual Flower Mart on Saturday, traffic (and parking) may be unusually heavy. Please plan accordingly! Bat Mitzvah Service Here are some helpful reminders about rules and attire provided by the Temple: --Services begin around 10:00 am. Please arrive by that time and find a seat in the sanctuary. --Turn off all cell phones or electronics before the service starts. Texting is not acceptable during the service. --No eating or drinking in the sanctuary. This includes candy, gum, water, and any other food-like substance. --Sit quietly in the sanctuary throughout the whole service. It is a religious ceremony and any unnecessary talking can disturb people who are praying. --Taking pictures is not allowed in the sanctuary, but it’s okay and encouraged at the evening celebration. --The clothes you wear should be appropriate for a worship service. No strapless or sleeveless tops or dresses (arms should be at least partially covered). Bat Mitzvah Kiddush Lunch At the conclusion of the service, we’ll go downstairs for a Kiddush luncheon. The Temple prefers to have parents park and come into the building to pick up their children if possible. Pick-up is anytime between 12:30-1:00 pm. There is very limited parking, so please plan accordingly. Evening Celebration The celebration continues in the evening at BlackRock Center for the Arts which is about 1/2 hr. drive from Chevy Chase, MD. The party begins at 7:00 pm. Parents may park in the Center’s lot and escort their children into the building. Pick-up is at 11:00 pm at the same entrance. The kids buffet accomodates vegetarian, nut-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free meals upon request. If there are any questions, please contact us!
