State Police search Housatonic River in triple slaying

PITTSFIELD -- A team of State Police investigators combed the Housatonic River and its shoreline in Lenox on Friday, searching for possible additional evidence in last August's triple slayings of David Glasser, Edward Frampton and Robert Chadwell.

Dive units had gathered at Woods Pond in the morning, according to passersby.

Berkshire District Attorney David Capeless told The Eagle that the operation resulted from "additional information we received in relation to the triple-murder case. This is an ongoing investigation and we're pursuing all leads we've received."

Capeless confirmed that "the search was conducted in and around the Housatonic River in Lenox."

Glasser, Frampton and Chadwell went missing Aug. 28 from Glasser's apartment at 254 Linden St. in Pittsfield. Their bodies were located 12 days later buried in a trench in Becket.

Adam Lee Hall of Peru, David Chalue of North Adams, and Caius Veiovis of Pittsfield have pleaded not guilty to three counts each of murder, kidnapping and witness intimidation. All three are being held without bail.

Capeless declined to release additional details about the nature of the search.

This is not the first time investigators have looked for evidence in the case at the Housatonic River. According to police records, witnesses saw a man fitting Hall's description throwing shoes, clothing and a box into the Housatonic River from the Veterans Memorial Bridge on Mill Street

in Lenox after the three men went missing. Some of those items were later recovered in the course of the police investigation.
Police charge that Glasser was killed to keep from testifying in an upcoming trial against Hall -- a reputed member of the local Hells Angels chapter. The other two men were killed so there would be no witnesses, authorities claim.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 9, but no trial date has been set.
