Political Consequences of the Economic Crisis

Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 17-18: The 2008 global liquidity shortfall
and subsequent crisis have had devastating economic consequences in
Europe. What do we know, however, about the political consequences?
This conference will provide a venue to share knowledge about political
fallout in particular countries while at the same time testing
hypotheses about the relationship among the economy, voting behavior
and other forms of political engagement and participation. Sponsored by

Picturing Muslim Women

Tuesday, Apr. 17: This illustrated lecture incorporates a variety of
themes beginning with the question of Islamic art and the imaging of
Muslim women in both western and non-western art. The motifs of Muslim
women and the visual art extends beyond the traditional category of
"woman as subject" to include women's little-acknowledged standing as
